If you use your living area as a space where you watch television or movies often the placement of the furniture and TV or projector is even more important. Placing the television and seating furniture along opposite walls is often the best and possibly only real solution, proper placement of an area rug will help keep your room from visually shrinking. Place the area rug in front of or underneath the television then place the furniture along the opposite outside edge of the rug. This visually expands your floor space and will keep you from feeling too cramped. If possible, use a round or oval shaped rug to eliminate a boxy feel.
If you want a formal look to your living room, you can show off some expensive art pieces or pottery pieces that tell a story of a long time ago. You could place a beautiful expensive painting directly above the sofa with nothing else on that side of the wall. You can place two end tables and a lamp on each one to complete the look. If you have a window on the wall, you can place a sophisticated window covering on the window made from the finest material and trimmed in fringe. You can display the beautiful portraits on each side of the window.
If you are going to allow eating in the living room, place an area rug in the corner with a coffee shop table for two. Place an area rug underneath it so everyone will know that you can eat in that area only. This will space your sofa and the rest of the area rugs in the living room from becoming stained up.
Drapes and curtains are available in different types and varieties at different budgets. Along with offering an element of privacy, drapes control the lighting of the area and also lend great character to the living room due to which they are considered quite unavoidable. Furniture for the living could include sofas, side tables, centre tables, bean bags, dressers, display cabinets, futon chairs, etc of a variety of types and sizes. Care should be maintained while selecting the living room furniture because it should match the size and color of the room. Keep furniture to a minimum if the space is small and limit the design to sleek and straight lines instead of carved and elaborate ones.
