How to make BBQ Chicken Dip
Be sure to see the recipe card below for full ingredients & instructions!
- Bake the chicken breasts and cut into pieces.
- Mix together the cream cheese, BBQ sauce, ranch, sour cream, cheese and green onion with the chicken.
- Place in a baking dish and top with the rest of the BBQ sauce and cheese.
- Bake and serve!
What’s the best chicken to use?
I like to make this with chicken breast rather than thighs, but both will work. I find that some people prefer the texture of chicken breasts, so if you have picky eaters, those are probably best to use.
What’s the best way to cook the chicken?
I like to bake the chicken breasts in the oven, it’s an eay to prep and hands off method, but you can also cook them on a skillet or in an Instant Pot or Crockpot. To save time, you can also use a store-bought rotisserie chicken.

Can you make it ahead of time?
This BBQ chicken dip is best served warm, straight out of the oven. You can make up the baking dish and keep it refrigerated for a day and then bake it when you are ready to serve.
Recipe Tips and Notes
- Double for a large party and bake in a 9×13 inch pan.
- Serve with tortilla chips, potato chips, bread or veggies!
- I like to use a full fat cream cheese for the richest flavor, but you can use low fat if you prefer.
- The cream cheese should be at room temperature so that it’s easy to combine with the other ingredients.
This BBQ chicken dip is so deliciously indulgent and every bite is loaded with flavor. Super easy to make, this appetizer is meant to be shared!
