Many thanks to former and forever #PitchStar Ellie Howell for joining us at the #PitchPad this week to share her tips on why it is so important to “stay human” in the world of #PublicRelations and how to do it! Some of our favorite tips she shared included:1. Use your personality as an asset to build relationships with reporters. Comment on their stories, follow them on social media; get to know their work and who they are and they will remember you and will want to work with you more. 💃🏼2. Don't be embarrassed if you mess up. Acknowledge it and move on because everyone makes mistakes. 😅3. Your success is dependent on your likability. You will be a lot more successful if you are personable and get to know your clients and journalists as human beings, not as “contacts.” 😊4. Sending an FYI email could be more successful than sending a hard pitch email, with keeping media contacts in the loop on what’s happening instead of trying to sell the all the time. 💌5. If you fumble something, just smile. A smile can go a long way to soften any situation and most people will sympathize with you . 😁During our 20th anniversary we are inviting back some of our top #PitchStar alumni to share how they are using the skills they learned at Pitch Publicity in their current careers 🌟 More #PitchStar catch-ups to come as we celebrate 20 years of #ThePitch #PublicistLife #Pitch20Anniversary 🎉

𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗧𝗜𝗞 𝗧𝗢𝗞: 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝘁Network and reach out to like-minded people or decision-makers and build a connection. Then schedule a time to continuously stay on top of this relationship cultivation. Join forums and answer questions or pose questions to start a dialogue. Anything and everything to continuously push ahead into thought leadership status. Knowing your value is key to cutting through the fluff and ensuring your content leaves a positive and memorable mark on these hiring managers and recruiters. Your goal is to understand the role and industry inside and out so that eventually you can become the subject matter expert. Find some new career job openings and the possible credentials you may need to better position yourself in this new role and find online institutions where you can acquire these credentials, and list them on your resume. Also, find membership groups and industry networking opportunities...this is a wonderful place to gather knowledge from industry pros who can help explain the nuances of your new role. Be realistic in what you can achieve. While taking chances and risks are a good thing, do not over-stretch yourself into a role you simply are not a fit for (yet). What industry do you want to live in, and in what role? Be specific in what you want, clarify it, write it down, consume knowledge of it, live it. Recruiters cannot help you if you nor they know what you want to do. Most people have skills and experience that can transfer nicely to another industry or job. The key is knowing how those skills reasonably transfer, and what sort of value they bring to the prospective employer. The challenge is that most are unsure of how their skills are exchangeable to other duties. If you're an accomplished professional, it's best to use actual methodologies, processes, skills, or technologies relating directly to the open job description and your experience.https://lnkd.in/dSTjrsAr#networking #relationshipcultivation #thoughtleader #value #hiringmanagers #recruiters #industryexpert #credentials #resume #membershipgroups #industrynetworking #realistic #careergoals #specificgoals #skillsandtransfer #jobdescription #experience #career #jobsearch #personaldevelopment #professionaldevelopment #jobtips #careeradvice #careercoach #careercoachtiktok #tiktokcareercoach #jobstickers

Having attended this event last week, I can honestly say that I was blown away by the number of attendees! It was a great opportunity to interact with fellow students and hear from leading employers. I particularly enjoyed my conversation with Zsolt Podoba-Szalai, a software engineering trainer, where we discussed how to navigate a career in tech as a beginner. I recently completed the bright network: couch to coder course which Zsolt hosted and I am passionate to continue learning.A final highlight was the talk by Matt Swain, explaining the importance of using LinkedIn to create a 'brand' for yourself. Creating associations which showcase your skills and personality can have several benefits:1. You're more likely to be recognised and gain new connections2. You may be offered support, experience or opportunities from these new connections 3. This helps contribute to successful job applicationsThanks to Bright Network for hosting the event and to all the employers for giving up their time to attend.
