I had an incredible time on 1st June being a part of the annual learning presentation at Scattergood Friends School in Iowa, America.First and foremost, the Grade 12 students astounded us with their year-long project on the "History of Dance in Modern America." It was truly captivating to witness their mesmerizing performance, accompanied by self-composed music. 🎢Not only that, the students from grades 9th, 10th, and 11th also shared their knowledge on various subjects. The science enthusiasts explored different mushrooms, delving into their fascinating world. πŸ„ The architects-in-training enlightened us about the "Tree of Life" in architecture, showcasing the beautiful connections between nature and design. 🌳 Additionally, the social science enthusiasts took us on a virtual tour of their recent visit to Mexico, providing insights into the rich culture and heritage of the country. πŸ‡²πŸ‡½Throughout the presentation, I couldn't help but reflect on our examination system in India. In contrast to the innovative approach at Scattergood Friends School, our system often revolves around rote memorization without truly understanding the concepts. It's time we prioritize comprehension and practical application rather than simply reciting information from textbooks. In the digital age, where information is readily available, we should focus on developing critical thinking skills and utilizing knowledge effectively.Imagine if the students at Scattergood were assessed the way we do in our board exams, do you think they could have developed the understanding that they have developed today? The history of American dance, the significance of mushrooms, or the understanding of Mexico beyond textbook paragraphs? Our examination pattern is limiting students' potential for learning. We must adapt and upgrade our education system to keep up with the changing times. Many countries that have embraced educational innovations and moved away from rote memorization have witnessed significant progress in their students' development.Stay tuned for Part 2, where I'll share more about the innovative practices and inspiring students at Scattergood Friends School. 🌟 Let's strive for a more engaging and progressive education system that empowers our learners for the challenges of the 21st century! πŸ’ͺ#Educationchange #21stCenturyLearning #InspiringStudents #ScattergoodFriendsSchool #part1

Today marks the first day of school for most students, as they step into higher grades. The excitement is palpable, and they are ready to embrace new learning challenges.Parents, on the other hand, are equally delighted, as the hustle and bustle of summer break finally gives way to some tranquility. It's a fresh start and a moment of growth for their children.I wholeheartedly wish every student great success in their academic pursuits. Let's work together to nurture the next generation and shape a brighter future ahead! πŸ“šπŸŽ“πŸŒŸ #NewSchoolYear #LearningAndGrowing #HarmoniousFamilies"

How many times have you seen classrooms portrayed the same way in movies and TV shows over the past four decades? For too long, students have been confined to straight rows, a setup that's been around for 150 years! We now understand that such environments contribute to disengagement, with over 65% of 12th graders feeling disconnected. It's time for a change, and we're excited to be part of it with the Second Class Foundation. Our collaboration with the Second Class Foundation is all about reshaping these narratives and challenging outdated norms. Together, we're bringing stories to life that showcase today's vibrant, dynamic, and student-centered learning spaces. What's your vision of an ideal learning space? Share your thoughts below!#EducationRevolution #InnovativeLearning #ChangingNarratives #EmpowerStudents #FutureOfEducation

Student-led conferences are my new favorite thing πŸ‘‡πŸΎ All of last week, our school, High Tech High, had student-led conferences (SLCs) where students would do a presentation for their parents, siblings, and teachers on what they've learned. As a former teacher, I had only been ever exposed to parent-teacher conferences. You know, the whole "How is my kid doing?" and "What's their grade in class?"This was my first time where I got to relax, sit back, and let the student take on the show. Each of them had slides or documents, shared about every subject, presented evidence, and explained their goals for this year. The self-awareness and reflection of the students BLEW MY MIND (yes, 7th graders). ✨ And the best part? ✨ Parents were the ones who led the post-reflection with critical questions, reflections, and celebrations. Sometimes, even the siblings. It was truly a family affair. I've found a new appreciation for this practice. Every child deserves not be just a part of the conversation, but the LEADER of the conversation of their learning throughout the school year.πŸ‘‰πŸΎ Have you ever experienced something like this?#hightechhigh #consciousness #education #innovation #pbl #learning #consultkomal #raiseyourhand #uscmarshall #teachforamerica #teachers #teaching #parents #parenting #mindfulness #future#school #linkedin#leader #children #teacherlife #classroomdesign #educationmatters #gratitude

As autumn begins to paint the trees, teachers all over the world step into their classrooms, ready to begin a journey like no other. They're met with fresh faces, curious eyes, and eager minds - a group of young learners each unique in their own way. With love and patience, these teachers knit together this diverse group into a closely-knit family, a classroom family. In this family, each day is filled with new adventures in learning, every question welcomed, every success celebrated, and every challenge met together. In this nurturing environment, the students grow - intellectually and emotionally. They discover the joy of learning, the importance of resilience, and the value of camaraderie. The classroom walls echo with laughter, buzz with energetic discussions, and witness the quiet moments of profound understanding. But as the school year wanes and the warm embrace of summer returns, the cycle reaches a poignant moment - it's time for the teacher to bid a bittersweet farewell to their classroom family. This farewell, while filled with the sadness of parting, is also sweetened by the pride in seeing how far the students have journeyed. And as the teachers wave goodbye, they look forward to the coming autumn, when the leaves will fall again, and a new group of young learners will step into their classrooms, ready to form a new loving family. Such is the beautiful rhythm of teaching, a testament to the profound impact a teacher has on countless lives.- Follow us on LinkedIn for daily education content and insightful publications.
