Lutharo's Frontwoman and Drummer Depart Amidst Toxicity Allegations
The Canadian melodic death/thrash metal band Lutharo has recently parted ways with founding members Krista Shipperbottom and Cory Hofing. The band's statement, released alongside the news, can be found below.
In a separate statement, Shipperbottom revealed that she had endured a long-standing pattern of toxic and harmful behavior from a bandmate, pushing her to her limits. She chose not to name the individual, but hinted at past industry experiences and patterns that might be recognizable to many.
"I speak not out of spite, but with the intention of protecting others," she wrote. "If my story can serve as a warning, I hope it provides future collaborators with the awareness I wish I had. To those who remain by his side, I hope you one day choose yourselves and your well-being."
Hofing, in a show of solidarity with Shipperbottom, also decided to leave the band. He expressed his discomfort with the band's internal dynamics and behavior patterns, stating that he had reached a point where he could no longer continue in that environment.
"I had many honest conversations with my friend and bandmate Krista in recent months," Hofing shared. "Through these conversations, I gained a deeper understanding of her experiences. Based on my personal observations and what I've heard, I fully support her decision to prioritize her mental health and well-being."
Lutharo, in their statement, acknowledged the departure of both Shipperbottom and Hofing with heavy hearts. They praised Shipperbottom's integral role in the band's success over the past 11 years, highlighting her voice, lyrics, energy, and commitment. They also recognized Hofing's early contributions and his energetic stage presence.
"Krista and Cory will be deeply missed," the band wrote. "We wish them love, happiness, and success in their future endeavors. Although this chapter ends, our journey continues."
Despite the recent changes, Lutharo assured fans that all previously announced shows, including their upcoming European tour, will still take place. The band expressed gratitude for the support they've received during this challenging time, inviting fans to stay tuned for further details.
