Then there are your beds for more than one person, which are basically queen and king. Honestly, there is very little difference between the two except that king beds are a little bigger. These are your typical beds that your typical married couple buy. I’ll cover variations of these later. Then you’ve got your bunk beds. You know, the kind you and your little brother had when you were growing up. I actually had 2 friends who had bunk beds. The older one got the bottom and the younger one got stuck on top. That’s usually how it works unfortunately. First come, first served.
There are several health benefits from adjustable beds. Adjustable beds ease swelling of the legs or edema and ease back pain. They relieve soreness of the body and sooth next and shoulder tension. They also offset acid reflux and nighttime heartburn. They provide relief for certain parts of the body such as the neck, the spine and the knees. Adjustable beds are especially useful for people who have degenerative spondylolisthesis, osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, asthma, phlebitis, varicose veins, back pain or neck pain.
Adjustable beds, also known as Semi-Fowler beds, can be adjusted in position to suit the requirements of the user. Those who have medical conditions that require them to sleep in certain positions generally use adjustable beds. They may be also used by those who are temporarily or permanently bed-ridden to make them sleep more comfortably. Sometimes, even those without medical needs can use adjustable beds just to have a comfortable sleep.
This design prevailed for centuries. Throughout history, very few aspects of the bed changed. Eventually, improvements developed with the idea of bedsprings. Although invented in the 1870’s, they weren’t manufactured and sold for many years. Providing wonderful, novel comfort, these springs removed the loathed lumps which had prevented a satisfying night’s sleep. Also invented in the 19th century, the metal bed frame proved inhospitable to bed bugs, while wood frames were weakened by them. The new bed frame would continue to support up to 10 layers of sheets, blankets, quilts and more at that time. Resulting from countless, uncomfortable nights, a flawed design was ultimately changed.
