One of the main factors affecting the looks of a room is its walls. The colors and texture used in walls make a whole lot of difference to the room. For example, if your living area is small in size, it can be made to look larger visually by application of ‘cool‘ colors like greens and blues of a lighter shade. They actually have the ability to make your ceiling look larger in height too. But if you really want dark colors, you can get a single wall painted to a related matching dark color to give the room an element of interest.
If your living room is on the smaller side, make sure you are aware of the furniture pieces you are putting into that room. It is important not to overburden a smaller space with too many pieces of furniture or too large of furniture. The placement of furniture and area rugs in a small space is essential. In order to visually expand the space, keep furniture toward the walls. Clumping furniture too close together, or too near the center of the room, will visibly shrink an already small space.
